Aboriginal Folk Tale: Long, long ago in the Dreamtime the Earth was dark. There was no light. It was very cold and very black. The Magpies decided that they would raise the sky by gathering sticks and pushing the sky up. All the animals agreed it was a good idea and they set about gathering sticks. The Magpies each took a big stick and began to push at the sky.The Magpies kept pushing the sky higher and higher, until they reached the highest mountain in the whole land. Then, with a mighty effort, they gave the sky one last push. The sky shot up into the air, and as it rose it split open and a flood of warmth and light poured through on to the land below. The whole sky was filled with beautiful reds and yellows. It was the first sunrise.
Sunrise means the beginning of life. The world starts anew. The birds sing. We return to the light of day, to reason, knowledge, and righteousness. There is the promise that our goals and ideals may be fulfilled, that we may be embarking on a new adventure. In rituals and stories throughout human history, the sun represents health, power, energy, and joy, while Light serves as a symbol of spiritual well-being and God.
Sunrise in one's life depicts the heralding of a new beginning. May it be the clock striking midnight to mark one's birthday or the day of a special occasion, like an anniversary or a wedding. Sunrise brings hope and as a very popular Indian saying goes, "Every night is followed by sunrise", which means that every period of darkness and trouble is followed by a sunrise, which will bring a solution and a time to celebrate.
Sunrise symbolism is closely tied to new beginnings, which is why many people cherish it. Each dawn means a new opportunity to achieve greater things in life – it’s full of mystery of what each new day may bring to your life. Every day is new and full of new events and opportunities to do what you want to do.
